Terry Hicks, SoNA Singers Director

Terry Hicks is in his thirty-sixth year as Director of Choirs for Bentonville Public Schools, his nineteenth year as Choir Director at First Christian Church of Bentonville, and his sixteenth year as Director of the SoNA Singers. He holds degrees in Music Education from Ithaca College (B.M.E.) and the University of Arkansas (M.M.E.) and has performed with the Robert Shaw Festival Chorus at Carnegie Hall.

Under his leadership, the Bentonville High School choirs have consistently earned superior ratings at festivals throughout the region and beyond. His ensembles have been featured at five Arkansas State Music Conventions, the National High School Choral Festival at Carnegie Hall, three Southwest ACDA Conferences, and two ACDA National Conferences. Notably, his choir was also invited to perform for His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Mr. Hicks also teaches AP Music Theory and has guided his choirs on numerous award-winning tours throughout the United States and Europe. He is a member of ACDA, NAfME, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and has been recognized with the ArkCDA Distinguished Director Award in 2001, 2005, and 2015. Currently serving as Past President of ArkCDA, he has also held leadership roles as All-State Chairperson, Region Chairperson, and President of ACDA Arkansas.

A sought-after clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Hicks frequently works with choirs across Arkansas and the central United States.

He resides in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with his wife, Peggy, and their dog, Albus. They have two children, Katie and John, a daughter-in-law, Kaitlyn, and a grandson, Ian.
